Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities with

Portland Impact

Be a Volunteer Mentor

Members of our community are a wonderful source of knowledge and support and have a wide range of life experiences that can be shared through mentoring.  The Portland Impact Mentoring Program recruits community members to volunteer as mentors for elementary and middle school aged youth.  The greatest gift you have to offer a young person is your genuine interest in their life and your willingness to listen attentively to them.  Just 4-6 hours per month can make such an impact.  Become a part of a team committed to helping a young person reach his or her full potential.

Commitment: 4-6 hours per month for 12 months.  Includes one hour per week one-on-one with mentee as well as periodic training and group community involvement projects.

Tutoring at Portland Impact SUN School Sites

K-12 students attending 11 Northeast and Southeast public schools and performing below benchmarks in core academic areas participate in this program. Motivating and guiding students through one-on-one or small group  tutoring sessions is the goal.
Commitment: One hour per week over the course of one academic year.

Friendly Visitor

Be a companion and support person for an isolated elderly person or an adult with disability. Socialize by phoning and/or visiting regularly and encouraging recreational involvement outside the home. May involve shopping for groceries or helping with personal needs.
Commitment: One hour per week for at least six months.

Parent-Child Program Assistant

Help PCDS Parent Child Specialists in interactive groups and workshops and organize materials. The assistant works directly with families with children ages birth to 5 years, primarily supervising play activities of kids whose parents are in Center activities. Early childhood experience preferred.
Commitment: Minimum two hours a week for at least six months.

Portland Impact puts on special events and is in need of cleanup or setup crews, as well as people who are interested in event planning and coordination. Special events take place throughout the year.
Commitment: One or multiple times a year.
